Dad Vail

May 12-13, 2018

Philadelphia, PA  – For the penultimate competition of the season, the team headed back to the City of Brotherly Love to throw down at the historic Dad Vail Regatta. In recent years, the regatta has become known increasingly as a “Philly Schools vs. Club Programs” regatta, where D1 programs centered in Philly compete for an IRA bid while club teams cut their teeth on some hefty competition.

The regatta took place over two days, with time trials and heats on Friday and finals on Saturday. Five crews advanced to Grand Finals; The 1F, the 1V, the 3V, the Varsity 4x, and the Lightweight 4+. The 4x and Light 4+ scored silver medals while the 1F came away carrying bronze. The 3V placed 4 th and the 1V placed 6 th in their respective finals.

Boats that did not have to compete in a time trial went directly to a semifinal, where only the top two finishers in a given heat advanced to the Grand Final to be held on Saturday. The only exception being the Men’s Third Varsity 8 boat, which went directly to a final on Saturday due to the size of the competitive field.

Despite the less-than-desirable results in several races, most crews sized up well against other club programs that will be present at ACRA in two weeks. Collecting some medals in smaller boats demonstrates the depth that will be needed to win the team points trophy in Gainesville. The team is training hard to finish the season strong and bring home the national championship once again.

And as always,
