Million Meter Challenge

March 13, 2019

Ann Arbor, MI  – Well before dawn on March 13, a cold Wednesday morning, the familiar ringing of the erg flywheel could be heard all across the Diag as the team began their annual Million Meters Challenge benefiting C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. While in the past this event was one of many intra-squad competitions, this year was different. With an astonishing 21 rowers incapacitated due to an adenovirus outbreak that swept through the team, the healthy rowers and coxswains reorganized and committed to pulling as many extra shifts as it would take to complete the million meters for the fundraiser. This year featured guest appearances of several alumni from the Ann Arbor area as well as Coach Hartsuff, who pulled his thirty-minute piece in true Hartsuff-fashion, at a 16 stroke rate. Raising over 3500 dollars for C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, the 2019 Million Meters Challenge was a huge success. Thank you to all who donated to this worthy cause, we greatly appreciate your contribution.
