Don Lubbers Cup
April 8-9, 2017
Spring Lake, MI
– In our second full-team regatta, the Michigan Men’s Rowers travelled to Spring Lake Yacht Club to compete in the 22nd annual Lubbers Cup regatta. Competing against the likes of Grand Valley State, Purdue, Michigan State, Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio State, and Case Western, the Wolverines threw down a dominant performance, medaling in five of six events entered, and taking home the Men’s Overall Points Trophy.
Unique to the Lubbers Cup regatta is the ‘Round-Robin’ format wherein each crew races a total of three times, and faces off against each other crew in its respective event. At the end of racing, medals are awarded to either the team that goes undefeated, or, in the case of statistical ties, to the team that had the best margins over competing crews.
Unfortunately, due to to windy weather conditions over the course on Sunday, the regatta officials prematurely ended the competition after most crews only raced twice. Still, the Michigan 1V, 2V, 3V, Open Four, and Novice Four proved themselves the clear winners in their events.
We would like to thank all families that helped house our rowers, fill the tent with delicious food, and cheer on our boys as they launched and passed the dock.
Practice continues on Argo this week in preparation for the Kerr Cup in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In the meantime, we’ll keep grinding out there, rowing hard, and setting our sights on more big wins this spring.
