October 1, 2022
This past weekend, selection was made for the 14 athletes heading to the 2022 Head of the Charles regatta in Boston. The squad headed to the Charles in a few weeks will look much different than last year's with only four of the twelve who raced last year returning. They are much younger on average, with nearly half of the rowers selected being sophomores. Those going will look to build on last year's results as the team continues to grow back to its original pre-COVID size. Everyone is excited to meet up with the alumni at the trailer, the brunch, and along the river throughout the weekend.
The 2022 Charles Selection (AKA the Pairs Matrix) is in the books, but not without some excitement. As Gregg put it after one of the reps, “I don’t think the big island has ever had so many visitors.” The finals ran much more smoothly with good racing in the petites and an incredibly tight grand that saw a margin of no more than 14 seconds total from first to fourth place on both sides. Now, the attention turns to the Head of Charles for the twelve rowers and two coxswains who qualified to fill the entries in the 8+ and the 4+. We’re all thrilled to head to Boston and rep the block M in just a few weeks!
