Music City Head Race

October 29, 2022

It might not have been on stage, but the Michigan Men's Rowing team performed in Nashville this past weekend.

The full team of over 90 athletes traveled together for the first time to race in Nashville, Tennessee at the Music City Head Race. This race is hosted by Vanderbilt University and their coach, Michigan Alum Jon Miller '07. The Michigan Men's Team took Gold AND Silver in every sweep event it entered: Men's Collegiate 8+, Men's Collegiate 4+, Men's Collegiate Novice Men's 8+, Men's Collegiate 2nd Novice 8+, Men's Collegiate Novice 4+. On top of that, super senior Joshua Joyce took home gold in the singles event.

The Team continues to demonstrate resilience after making it through the COVID pandemic and associated restrictions. The combined Novice and Varsity teams number just over 90 athletes. This mirrors pre-pandemic numbers; however, 85% of the current team is either a Freshman or Sophomore which is unusual.
